Eligibility requirements
Long-term accommodation should be seen as the last option in answering patients’ needs for the provision of care and services.
Target clientele
Patients in long-term accommodation are generally elderly people who are losing their autonomy as they age. Having them remain at home safely is no longer possible despite the support of their families and friends, the available services and community resources.
How to obtain accommodation
Allocating places in all our living environments (CHSLDs, MDAs and RIs) is done through the MAH access procedure (Mécanisme d’accès à l’hébergement) which ensures accessibility and the management of all requests and all accommodation placements in the Laurentians. MAH aims to ensure that the person is housed in the right place, at the right time, and with the right resources.

An assessment of the request will then be conducted by a professional from the CISSS des Laurentides to establish the profile of the person’s level of autonomy and to determine with the person and their family which facility best responds to their needs and profile. At this stage, the person will be invited to indicate their two or three preferred facilities, including the Maisons des Aînés*.
*The Maisons des Aînés (MDA) in Prévost, Sainte-Agathe-des-Monts, Sainte-Anne-des-Plaines and Saint-Canut are among the choices offered to the patients.
Management of the waiting list
The request’s level of urgency is the primary factor considered when managing the waiting list. If it is a social emergency, that is, when keeping the person in their current home is no longer possible because of their specific needs and the risks associated with their state of health, the person will be prioritized for admission. Transitional accommodation (not based on the person’s choice but rather on the urgency of the situation) may then be offered until a place is available in one of their chosen facilities.
The waiting list fluctuates based on when places become available. It is therefore not possible to predict when a person will be admitted to the facility of their choice. The waiting time varies from one facility to another.
