Tools and resources for patients and their families

Below you will find tools and resources available free online, including for self-care. Self-care generally consists of information, practical exercises and various activities provided as written material, online software or mobile apps. Self-care can be completed by the person independently or with a counsellor’s occasional support (by email, online chat or telephone, etc.). 

Getting better my way

The “Getting better… my way” tool is a self-management tool designed to support people who are experiencing difficulties due to depression, anxiety or bipolar disorder by helping them regain their equilibrium and to feel good again, as well as to support them on their personal path to recovery.

Wellness Together Canada

Wellness Together Canada provides Canadians with free services and resources available 24/7 including immediate support in case of crisis, self-assessment and a mental health watch, virtual self-directed and group programs about anxiety, online courses, support communities and individual consultations by video, telephone or text.

My Tools

Web app for people experiencing psychological distress and likely to have suicidal thoughts when confronted with a stressful situation. It is also possible to talk to a counsellor on the phone, by text or online chat.

MindShift™ CBT

This web app was developed by Anxiety Canada, a non-profit charitable organization, to promote access to resources and evidence-based treatments. The tools offered target problems related to worry, panic, perfectionism, social anxiety and phobias. Online courses and a group therapy program are also available. 

Petit BamBou (in French only)

Web app offering meditation programs developed by a professional collective in France. The initiation to meditation program is free. There is a cost for other programs and subscriptions. Programs are also available in Italian, Spanish, German and Dutch.

BounceBack

BounceBack® is a free program provided by the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA). This self-care is designed to help adults and youth aged 14 and up manage low mood, depression, anxiety and stress or worry. Working with workbooks and a trained coach to guide you, BounceBack® can help you build skills to improve your mental health. 

Cap santé mentale 

Cap santé mentale is designed for those living with a person with a mental health issue (depression, anxiety disorder, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, personality disorder and others). Various tools and resources (articles, videos, podcasts, etc.) to deal with a family member’s mental health issues. 

Relief

Relief is a national organization that provides support for people experiencing anxiety, depression or bipolar disorder, as well as their families. Relief offers individual support, online self-management workshops, group workshops and support groups. 

Mouvement santé mentale Québec (MSMQ) (in French only)

The MSMQ is a group of Quebec community organizations dedicated specifically to mental health promotion and prevention. You can find a variety of tools on the site (posters, flyers, activity sheets, webinars, presentations and more) designed for the general public, for youth and seniors, and for workplaces.
