Services to help quit smoking and vaping

You want to reduce or quit smoking or vaping? 

Free services are available to help you.

In person

• Centres d'abandon du tabagisme (smoking cessation centres) can offer you free information and support to teach you how to quit smoking or vaping while respecting your pace. They can also provide nicotine-based treatment prescriptions, if needed. 
• You can join individual or group meetings with a specially trained nurse by calling: 1-844-440-AIDE (2433) or by finding a smoking cessation centre.
• New in the Laurentians: Pregnant women program Parce que je compte (Because I matter).

By phone

• All services are provided by a trained counsellor
• Monday to Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. 
• Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. 

By SMS - (SMAT) Stop smoking text messaging services (in French only)

• Quitting tips, support and information via text messaging on your cell phone, available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
• You can subscribe by texting SMAT at 20202, Facebook, or by visiting the SMAT website.

Medication to quit smoking

• Nicotine-based products and stop-smoking medications are effective and can help you succeed in quitting.
• If prescribed, many nicotine-based products (patches, gums and lozenges) are covered by prescription drug insurance for up to 12 weeks, under certain conditions.
• For more information, or if you want a prescription, please talk with your healthcare professional (doctor, pharmacist, nurse, respiratory therapist), or call your smoking cessation centre at 1-844-440-AIDE (4233).

Smoke-free environment

Second-hand smoke can increase your risk of suffering from lung cancer, respiratory diseases and cardiovascular disease. Pregnant women and children are particularly vulnerable to it. Turn your house and your car into smoke-free environments.

Anti-Smoking Law - complaints

The main goal of the Tobacco Control Act is to prevent the initiation of youth into the use of tobacco and e-cigarettes, to protect people from the dangers of second-hand smoke and to encourage quitting smoking.
