Allowances for socio-professional activities

Allowances for socio-professional activities

The CISSS’s work integration program is part of a rehabilitation process that seeks to place each person at the centre of their own development. In collaboration with families and our specialized case workers, we offer individualized support to enable each user to flourish, develop their skills, and actively participate in the life of their community

Our mission: provide support, offer experience in the workplace, and facilitate integration

The mission of our service is to develop the full employment potential of clients presenting an intellectual disability (ID) or autism spectrum disorder (ASD). We offer a continuum of specialized services to

  • Explore the work environment and discover various trades
  • Develop transversal skills
  • Experience real work contexts via work projects or work placements in a company
  • Promote social recognition and functional autonomy

Discontinuation of allowances for socio-professional activities

The Ministère de la Santé et des Services sociaux (MSSS) has announced that the allowances paid to users participating in socio-professional activities are being discontinued. This measure comes into effect on January 31, 2026.

Although the allowances are being discontinued, the activities are not. You can continue to take part in those activities as before, and the case workers remain available to accompany you and provide ongoing support. We understand how important your participation in professional life is and how this change may raise questions or concerns for you.

We remain available to support you through this change and to inform you about available solutions, including the Ministère de l’Emploi et de la Solidarité sociale (MESS) transportation expense reimbursement program.

Q&R: what you need to know

1. Why is the allowance being discontinued?

This decision by the Ministère de la Santé et des Services Sociaux (MSSS) seeks to ensure greater equity between people, because the allowance was not offered in all regions, or in the same fashion.

Moreover, the allowance was originally created to help cover transportation expenses to enable and facilitate participation in therapeutic activities. However, over time, it came to be seen differently, which made it necessary to redirect the support to clearer measures, such as reimbursing transportation expenses.

2. When will this measure be applied?

The measure will come into effect on January 31, 2026.

3. What will I receive in its place?

You will have access to the program to reimburse transportation expenses for your activities, administered by the Ministère de l’Emploi et de la Solidarité sociale (MESS). A short form to facilitate your application for this program has been made available. Your case worker can help you with the form.

4. Am I going to lose my activities?

No, this measure only regards the financial allowance. The socio-professional activities are ongoing if they are still part of your intervention plan.

5. Why now?

This directive is already in effect in several regions. It seeks to ensure equity.
