Mental health: Acting to meet the growing needs of the population
Since last year, we have seen a 24% increase in requests for mental health care through the various access methods. The mental health care needs of our population are growing. Faced with this increase, we are committed to acting quickly, in concert and adapted to the realities experienced in the Laurentians.
Statistics
In 2024-2025, nearly 2000 people were met in mental health services in the community (assertive community treatment, intensive case management, flexible intensity support, first episode psychosis program).
Our teams are mobilized and committed to ensuring rapid and equitable access to services:
- 94.5% of requests for addiction services were answered within the prescribed delays.
- 88.6% of requests for general psychosocial services were answered within the prescribed delays.
In 2024-2025, the average waiting times were:
- 13 days for general adult psychosocial services
- 14 days for addiction services
- 30 days for mental health services
More than 41,000 calls were dealt with in the same year by the Info-Social service (811, option 2), demonstrating constant and accessible support for the population.
Early intervention means giving each person a real chance to regain their balance.
In the Laurentians, access is at the core of our commitment.
Definition
A state of psychological equilibrium in which a person feels subjective wellbeing and functions appropriately within the society they are a part of.
Philosophy of care
The mental health care and services provided by the CISSS des Laurentides are consistent with the Québec Program for Mental Disorders. The overall goal of this program is for every person with symptoms related to a common mental health disorder to receive services adapted to their needs, at the right time, provided by a person who is authorized and trained.
See the Programme québécois pour les troubles mentaux (PQPTM) (Québec Program for Mental Disorders - page available in French only) to learn more.
