Taking part in our pulmonary rehabilitation program can help you to better understand and take charge of your condition at home.

With exercises, it becomes easier for you to control your shortness of breath, improve your muscle strength and your tolerance to effort, and better control your anxiety.
This knowledge will have a positive impact on your daily life, quality of life and confidence in your abilities.
Online classes and live assessments. Assessments are performed at Hôpital de Saint-Jérôme.
Module 1: Integrating an exercise program into your life
Introduction to the pulmonary rehabilitation program, explanation of the precautions to take when performing a physical activity, exercise session throughout the module with clarifications. For this module only, the time is devoted entirely to this.
Offered by: a nurse, respiratory therapist, kinesiologist, with a visit from the pneumologist, if available.
Module 2: Controlling your breathing
Coughing technique, body positioning, cycle of shortness of breath, advice on how to reduce shortness of breath crises, demonstration and explanation of devices such as the aerobika and flutter.

Module 3: Physiopathology, aggravating factors and explanation of FEV1
Physiopathology of the respiratory system, explanation of aggravating factors.
Offered by: a nurse clinician.
Module 4: Conserving your energy
Tools to better function at home, how to conserve your energy.
Offered by: an occupational therapist.
Module 5: Inhaler (puffer) technique
Demonstration of the various inhalers (puffers), their dosage and their order of priority.
Offered by: a respiratory therapist.
Module 6: Living with the disease
Challenges of the disease, impact on daily life, resources available.
Offered by: a nurse clinician.
Module 7: Nutrition
The beneficial effects of good nutrition, exercise tips.
Offered by: a nutritionist.
Module 8: Review of the modules
The principle of each exercise, review of breathing, coughing technique, the tools to begin rehabilitation at home, exercise checklist, adapted according to the group.
Offered by: a respiratory therapist and a kinesiologist.
Module 9: Action plan
What is an action plan, when to start it, when to consult.
Offered by: a nurse clinician.
Module 10: Stress and anxiety
How to control anxiety, relaxation practice session, tools to reduce stress.
Offered by: a respiratory therapist.
Module 11: Maintaining a healthy and satisfying lifestyle
Tips on how to keep up motivation, the benefits of rehabilitation, what constitutes a healthy lifestyle, how to use a pedometer, information on equipment to use at home.
Offered by: a kinesiologist.
Module 12: Pharmacology and comorbidities
Information on frequently prescribed medications and their interactions, type II diabetes, high blood pressure, cardiac problems.

Module 13: Sexuality and COPD, travelling with COPD
Link between sexual activity and COPD, tips when travelling.

Module 14: End-of-life care
End-of-life care, resuscitation, BiPAP.
