HOSPITALS (EXCEPT SAINT-JÉRÔME REGIONAL HOSPITAL)

Loved ones may visit patients in hospital (see specific information regarding Saint-Jérôme Regional Hospital), except in units that are experiencing an outbreak, which will remain closed to visitors. Members of the public should confirm with the care unit involved that visiting is authorized before going.

  • Visits are limited to one person at a time, for a maximum of 4 visitors per 24-hour day;
  • Visitors should be between 18 et 70 years of age;
  • Visiting hours must be respected;
  • Physical distancing must be practised in every case. This is to protect the health and safety of our residents, staff and visitors.

These guidelines may be relaxed for humanitarian reasons, for instance in end-of-life situations and for emergencies.

General conditions

The following persons will not be allowed to visit their loved one:

  • Anyone who received a positive COVID-19 diagnosis in the last 28 days;
  • Anyone whose recovery has not been confirmed;
  • Anyone experiencing COVID-19-like symptoms;
  • Anyone suspected of being infected or awaiting a test result (self-isolating).

Specific conditions for certain sectors

  • Emergency departments

One companion per patient is allowed, unless the presence of others is required for medical reasons or for sharing bad news. Visits could be temporarily prohibited during periods of overcrowding.

  • Oncology

A companion may be present only if required, for example for patients who need special support, such as individuals with cognitive impairment or hospitalised children. In bone marrow transplant or cell therapy cases, no visits are allowed, unless they are necessary or on condition the visitor undergoes triage or testing required for the unit.

  • Obstetrics and pediatrics

Every reasonable measure must be taken to facilitate the presence of a companion during childbirth. The parents’ presence is encouraged in neonatal and pediatric units, providing infection prevention protocols are followed. If these persons have COVID-19, they cannot be present, except in exceptional circumstances or if the mother who is giving birth or the child who is hospitalised are also infected, in which case they will be allowed to circulate in the hospital wearing a mask.

  • Medical imaging, endoscopy

One companion is allowed per patient when the situation requires it (example: obstetrical ultrasound, pediatric patients, patients with a loss of autonomy or mental health issues, etc.)
