Sociological background, identity disclosure and reunion support

Were you adopted? Did you entrust your child for adoption? Are you an adoptive parent or a relative of an adopted person?

In Quebec, sociological background, identity disclosure and reunion support services are under the responsibility of establishments that provide protection and rehabilitation services for youth with adjustment problems and their families.

Specifically, the Director of Youth Protection provides sociological background and identity disclosure support for youth who were adopted as children or for parents who entrusted a child for adoption in the Laurentians.

*Update*

On June 8, 2024, the provisions aimed at improving adopted children’s access to knowledge of their origins will come into force, in accordance with the Act respecting family law reform with regard to filiation and amendments to the Civil Code in relation to personality rights and civil status. Consequently, as of that date, new information and services concerning sociobiological background and reunion will be available. New applicants will also be eligible.
