Public health

The mission of the Public health department is to manage and improve the population’s health by developing campaigns to promote, prevent and protect health, in addition to monitoring the population’s state of health on a continuous basis.

More specifically, the mandate of the Public health department is to assume several responsibilities in accordance with the Public Health Act, the Act respecting occupational health and safety, the Regulation respecting the quality of drinking water and more particularly the Act to amend the Act respecting health services and social services. These responsibilities include the following :

  • Informing the population about the general health of the community, primary health problems, groups that are more vulnerable, primary risk factors and recommended interventions ; Also, following up on the above and conducting research and/or gathering data to that effect, as required.
  • Identifying situations posing potential health threats and implementing measures to protect the population accordingly.
  • Providing expert advice on prevention and health promotion and advising the Agence de la santé et des services sociaux des Laurentides about preventive services instrumental in the reduction of preventable mortality and morbidity.
  • Identifying situations requiring multi-sectoral action to prevent disease, trauma or social problems bearing impact on the population’s health and, when deemed appropriate, initiating relevant measures to support these actions.
